Jury Finds Police Officer Marcus Huffman Guilty of Rape

This just in from the Projo 7 to 7 News Blog:

A jury has found a Providence police officer guilty of rape.

Providence patrolman Marcus Huffman was ordered held without bail after the jury reported finding him guilty of first-degree sexual assault stemming from the May 17, 2007, incident.

He raped a 19-year-old woman in a police substation in South Providence while the woman was intoxicated, according to trial testimony.

Huffman showed little emotion when the verdict was announced.

His attorney said he plans an appeal.

The jury began deliberating Wednesday, spending about four hours considering a verdict.

Keynote Address by Cynthia Thomas Calvert, Esq. – Barrier Update: The Glass Ceiling and Maternal Wall in Law Firms Today – Cynthia Thomas Calvert is the co-director of the Project for Attorney Retention (“PAR”), at the Center for WorkLife Law.  The Center studies law firms? retention and advancement of female attorneys and work/life issues in legal employment.   As one of its hallmarks, PAR works with all stakeholders to develop practical solutions to issues of attorney retention and the advancement of women lawyers.
