I am a big fan of Google Local and, to a somewhat lesser extent, Google Scholar (my only hesitation is that I don't know how often the database is updated so it's possible that some of the information is outdated). These are great tools for law firms and other businesses.

I am less of a fan of Google Wave for use in a legal setting. There is simply no way to ensure that the information remains confidential. Wave's terms of service (http://tinyurl.com/yjffv72) specifically allow Google to collect and use any data input by Wave users. In your hypothetical, both the draft complaint and the associate's or client's comments would be usable by Google. Which, in the process, would waive any privilege over the documents.

In other settings, I think it's a great collaboration tool. But I don't think there's a way to square Google's use of the data with our ethical obligation as attorneys to maintain client confidences.

Dear Murmur -

Health courts - aka allowing doctors to police themselves - will limit patients' rights and undermine accountability in the health care system.

A new report on health courts by Case Western Reserve University professors Max Mehlman and Dale Nance finds that health courts would be burdensome, prohibitively expensive and would come at the expense of injured patients.

The report finds that health courts would require the creation of new and costly bureaucracies that would be controlled at every level by the insurance industry.

Your statements misrepresent the severity of illness in the child prior to transfer to Boston. Any invasive or complicated treatment bears the risk of a bad outcome. This is a perfect case for a health court with medical peers who investigate and determine "fault" as well as compensation.

Will, the Gen Treas office is RI is the mother of all campaign cash cows. When you sign all the checks, you get a lot of "friends".

I'm sure, for all 5 Dems, the vision is of $ signs and a springboard to future ambitions and has nothing to do with helping the state.

Oh, my. That's going to make it very interesting. I happen to like Lou. Anyone who runs a small business in this state deserves our respect. Interesting that he's taking on an incumbent of his own party. However, I think Mollis is vulnerable, so it's probably a good choice.

Looks like the Dems have a full plate. A plate of what, remains to be seen.

PS I never realized that being General Treasurer was all that great. 5 Dem candidates?
